Emeritus Scientific Members
The institute's high standing is due in no small part to its renowned Emeritus Scientific Members. Georg Kreutzberg and Hartmut Wekerle worked for many years as directors at the Max Planck Institute of Neurology or at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, as it was formerly known. The Nobel Prize winner Bert Sakmann, has been running an emeritus research group since his retirement from the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research.
