Childcare & Family Service

Several facilities on the campus of the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology care for the children of employees of the Institute. The "BioKids" nursery (for children from 10 months to 6 years) and the "Klopferspitzchen" parent initiative (for children from 12 months to 3 ½ years) are only a few minutes walking distance from the Institute. With the help of the Parent-Child Office of the Institute, employees can compensate for a short-term loss of care for their children, by bringing their children with them to the Institute. Further, it is possible to organize working time in a flexible and family-friendly manner.

Family Service

The pme family services support employees in all situations.
The portfolio includes:

  • the placing of child carers in private households (e.g. babysitters, au-pairs, "hired grandmas")
  • emergency care, the provision of carers at very short notice in emergencies
  • the offer of holiday care

The Max Planck Society bears the costs for the consultation and mediation services. The costs of the actual care are borne by the parents.

Reconciliation of career and family life is a major priority in the MPG

Tested quality through audit procedures: Since 2006, the Max Planck Society and all its institutes have been awarded the certificate of the non-profit berufundfamilie Service GmbH. Every three years, there is a comprehensive audit procedure in which the inventory of family-oriented measures is assessed and further initiatives for the realization of a family-conscious corporate policy are defined and implemented. In 2021, the Max Planck Society was awarded the "berufundfamilie" certificate for the sixth time.
